Ever wonder if other healthcare legal professionals worked as hard as you during the initial days of the Covid-19 outbreak? The truth is, everyone dealt with the impact of the pandemic in a multitude of ways, ultimately creating more boxes to check off the daily to-do lists.
Between firefighting the short-term challenges, to implementing solutions to managing the long-term complications, healthcare legal departments have had no choice but to "lean in" into the “new normal”.
Survey:
According to a recent survey conducted by Lawyers on Demand, 59% of in-house legal professionals across all industries said Covid-19 has elevated their workloads.
What does this percentage mean? Well, perhaps it tells us that some in-house legal departments will come out stronger after the surge, due to increased pressure to accomplish more tasks at work. It may also suggest that in-house legal departments were willing to go the extra mile in the short term to make sure they were still available for their organizations despite the uncertainty. Handling the impact of Covid-19, while also managing a legal team can be demanding and chaotic – navigating the unknown and making sure everyone is taken care of at the same time. Nevertheless, the result is a full plate.
LinkedIn Poll:
After reading through the Lawyers on Demand survey, we decided to take this question to LinkedIn and ask our healthcare legal and compliance connections about their workload since the inception of the pandemic.
Poll question: Healthcare in-house legal and compliance professionals: has your workload been impacted by Covid-19?
Poll options: Workload has decreased, Workload has not changed, Workload has increased
As you might expect, the overwhelming response was ‘Workload has increased’ at 87%. 10% of the participants said ‘workload has not changed,’ and only 3% chose ‘workload has decreased.’
What’s Next?:
It’s a no-brainer that the Covid-19 pandemic has pushed all of us to complete our work in a faster and more efficient manner. Uncertainty is at an all-time high, while the expectations remain the same - the question is: can we sustain this level of output or will we burnout?
